The James J. Davis Memorial Scholarship for Students Studying Abroad:
$1,000.00 Towards Educational Expenses in 2010/2011
2010 Winner
Congratulations to Michael Brent Zundel, our 2010 winner of the James J. Davis Memorial Scholarship!
A Civil Engineering--Bio-Resources and Hispanic Studies major in the Honors Program at Montana State University, Zundel will be studying in Valdivia, Chile for the 2010/2011 academic year. Zundel explained his reasons for wanting to study abroad this way: "I hope to be able to work internationally after attaining an advanced engineering degree and, due in no small part to my experiences with EWB [Engineers Without Borders], feel that understanding the culture of another nation is equally as important as having a strong technical background. If you cannot understand where the other people are coming from -- and understand all of their fears, desires, and needs -- you cannot begin to help them with any sort of engineering project. I want to understand not only the engineering aspect of aid work, but also the societal aspects."
Thank you to all applicants. We hope you have a successful and productive study abroad experience!
James J. Davis
James J. Davis, known to most as Jim, was a dear friend and colleague to Kymanox founder, Stephen M. Perry. Jim embraced continual learning through new experiences. He never took short cuts and didn’t feel they worked. In order to really know something, he felt you had to experience it, to live it. Jim was constantly seeking out new experiences to broaden his knowledge of the world. It is in this spirit that the scholarship was designed.
The Kymanox mission is to facilitate effective and efficient knowledge transfer. James J. Davis taught us that there are few things as effective and efficient in transferring knowledge as experience. The selected scholarship recipient will receive $1,000.00 (USD) for 2010/2011 educational-related expenses. The goal of these funds is to encourage students to study abroad and experience something new to grow their knowledge of the world.
